New picture of marketing as campuses reopen in August 2020

While some campuses have decided upon keeping the in-person classes suspended for an indefinite period, few have announced to welcome the students in the coming August. The reopening could mean readjusting multiple variables for campus marketing endeavors.

COVID-19 has been a trending topic, and for all the wrong reasons. Since the last quarter of 2019 the virus, originating in Wuhan (China), spread slowly across the globe – forcing everyone to stay indoors. With social distancing being the norm, schools and universities were closed within a few days’ notice. However, many institutions like West Virginia University, Texas A&M University, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame have pledged to open their gates from the students in the fall semester.

With students returning to dorms, campus marketing activities might slowly come back on track. However, there will some guidelines on how promotional agencies will run these ventures – ensuring the protection of the students and campus ambassadors.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has forwarded some guidelines for ensuring the safety of the students and non-student entering the university. According to the guidelines, university officials have to coordinate with the local and state officials on the strategies to reopen the campuses.

Additionally, for safety sake,
  1. Access to the common spaces need to be restricted (if possible)
  2. Installing plastic barriers for places where social distancing is not possible
  3. Holding smaller classes in the coming semester
  4. Mandatory usage of face masks among students and others

Among these measures, the marketing agencies have to revamp their promotional ventures to attract students. Some industries might experience an exponential surge in business, while others might experience a slump.

What marketing agencies can expect in the coming semester?

With social distancing, online classes, and face masks becoming the new normal – these marketing agencies can expect new wave in the business. According to industry insiders, some of the personal protective gear including face masks and Kleenex is expected to make a huge amount of sales. Along with that, Wi-fi extenders, portable battery chargers, and hard disks, and electronics items are anticipated to make a larger amount of sales in the coming quarters.

Marketing agencies that will incorporate campaigns and advertising these essential commodities, will win the campus marketing events. Till then, we have to wait and watch how what the future holds.
